FAQs

What is a radiation oncology center?

A radiation oncology center is a facility that specializes in providing radiation therapy to patients. Most often, we treat patients with cancer, but we also offer treatment for Dupuytren’s disease.

Why is it important for my radiation oncologist to be located near me?

Typically, individuals receiving radiation therapy need treatment 5 times per week for 3 – 9 weeks. Having your radiation oncologist located as near to you as possible will minimize interruptions to your daily life, instead of wasting hours driving to and from appointments nearly every day.

Why receive radiation therapy at a cancer center in your community instead of a hospital?

The best outcomes for cancer patients depend on expertise and precision treatment. While hospitals cover a wide spectrum of health issues and conditions, cancer centers like ours in Indiana and Kentucky offer specialization. With Radiation Centers of Kentuckiana, you can be confident that the radiation therapy you receive is the best option for your specific type of cancer.

Another important factor to consider is convenience—our centers provide you with the care you need close to home. When you’re getting radiation therapy five times per week, the last thing you need is a long drive to and from treatments. Plus, we have a free-standing building and our own dedicated parking lot, so you’ll never get lost in long hospital corridors trying to find the right place.

Where can I get screened for skin cancer or other types of cancer near me? Can you do this for me at one of your cancer centers?

Radiation Centers of Kentuckiana does not provide screening for skin cancer or other types of cancer. For screening services, please contact your primary care provider to get connected on where to get screened.

How do I know which is the best prostate cancer treatment center near me? What about lung cancer? Breast cancer?

Choosing where to receive treatment for cancer is a big choice. We recommend considering the following factors:

  • Experience of the radiation oncologists and the cancer center. Our Board-certified radiation oncologists offer over 80 years of collective experience, and our cancer centers in Indiana and Kentucky have been serving patients for more than 20 years.
  • Location. Radiation therapy can last for up to 9 weeks, and treatments generally occur five times per week. Be sure to choose somewhere close to home to minimize the amount of time you spend traveling to and from appointments.
  • Effectiveness of treatment options. There are many kinds of radiation therapy, and effectiveness varies. We offer these four types of radiation therapy using our state-of-the art linear accelerator with synchronized imaging.
